Gallatin Range, autumn commission for a lodge
Fourteen large prints for a lodge remodel, shot across three weeks of autumn in the Gallatin and Madison ranges.
The lodge was replacing every piece of art in twenty two guest rooms and wanted images from within an hour's drive, not stock pictures of Glacier.
Three weeks, eleven mornings, most of them starting at 4:30. Larch turns in a narrow window and the good color in the Gallatin lasts about nine days. Miss it and you wait a year.
We delivered forty selects and the lodge chose fourteen. Printed locally on cotton rag at forty by sixty, framed in reclaimed fir from the old lodge roof, which was their idea and a good one.
Two of the frames sell as open edition prints through the studio. The lodge takes a cut, which is the arrangement that made everyone say yes.
